Butterfly garden

I am thinking up ideas to create an integrated curriculum for my nature journaling classes. I would love to attract more insects and butterflies to my garden so I decided to buy some plants that would attract them. I will study them and describe them in more detail in another post (after they are incorporated in my sketchbook of course) but for now here are a couple of pictures of some of my flowers.

New sketches

We found these strange seed pods a few weeks ago but I was in a hurry to get to school so I did not have time to figure out what they were or where they came from.  The girls were not into an expedition at first but once they found out it was a half block and they could help find more seed pods they were enthusiastic.  I will have to draw the trees or at least take a picture of them when  I get a chance.  I would love to know what they are so I can then add the title to my page.

My own crab terrarium

I watched these little crabs at Spencer beach for an hour. It was fantastic fun. I think watching creatures has to be one of my top five favorite things to do.

Landscape

Work in progress. But I feel like it's right at the point where I want to scrap the whole thing.

I added apples to the tortilla and it was delicious.

I have been back into sketching. Perhaps it is the attraction of the new sketchbooks waiting for me. Perhaps it is the thought that I will take a picture of it and post it here. In any case, I love the feeling of a sketchbook filling and the pages taking shape.

Indian summer

I am not sure how good this picture will be but I sat in the backyard in the shade drawing this while the girls played in a baby pool. It has finally gotten hot and I am happy in it.
